Gender in Knocked Up

In the film Knocked Up a enticing and fun form of masculinity is portrayed rather than the socially normal form of masculinity that most  people associate with the average man. The opening of the movie shows what seems to be a backyard full of bachelors acting like teenage men. They participate in physical competition with each other and make crude gestures and comments. Throughout the intro we get a sense of fun before we find out how much these men really are “losers”.

In knocked up this fun “geek” aspect is played by the men throughout the movie. They are shown smoking weed, not working and constantly joking around with each other while not having and responsibilities which most people would associate with a teenager or young child (minus the weed smoking I hope). The guys also run a website solely to tell someone the scene and times that a celebrity goes nude in a movie. The house they live in is constantly a disgusting mess and the pool in the backyard looks as if it has never been clean. You almost wonder how they can even keep the house and not get kicked out from how nasty they keep it.

All of these portrayed aspect go along with a irresponsible and childish adult which in today's society of grown men just isn't accepted and Knocked up even shows that. Allison one of the main female characters sleeps with Ben one of our irresponsible “man child” and finds herself pregnant. Throughout the rest of the movie she struggles with the thought of having a child and ruining her career and also carrying the child of such a low life. Her sister constantly looks down upon the guy with the man boobs (Ben) and leads the audience and Allison to believe he is far from the acceptable form of husband material or even father material. She decides to give Ben a chance but the only way it will work is if he grows up and becomes more of an acceptable form of masculinity in which he finds in Pete.
Allison asking Ben to change the way he lives his life and to mature shows us that the enticing and fun masculinity portrayed isn't something that can be lived with forever in todays society if you want to get farther in life. It allows us to see that the more acceptable form which we see in pete is what today's women need and want. It also shows that acting like a child really isn't good for being with a women and having a child of your own.
Ben struggles with the thought of having a child and losing the enjoyment out of life that he has. He even makes a comment on how having a baby ruins people's dreams while ate dinner with Allison and her sister. Ultimately he must change almost all aspect of life as he knows it to become the man Allison needs to raise her child. He needs to move out of the bachelor house and get a steady paying job if he wants to make things work with Allison and the baby. His friends nag and struggle with the thought of losing him and also constantly try to persuade him to go a different route which in turn makes it even harder for Ben to go about his change to a more masculine man.

Absolution by Murder overview

In AD 664 our story Absolution by Murder by Peter Tremayne begins. The ruler of Northumbria King Oswry has convened a synod set to take place at Whitby and our main character’s Sister Fidelma and Brother Eadulf are traveling to attend. The synod is for the King to hear a debate between the Roman and Catholic churches to help him decide who should take precedence within his kingdom. His decision means the life or death of both religions and their teachings within his kingdom in Northumbria. The proceedings are halted and shaken when a renowned speaker for the Celtic church Abbess Etain is found murdered with her throat cut. Blame seems to fall upon the Roman side and the eruption of a civil war seems to be on the horizon. King Owry then confides in Sister Fidelma who is from the Celtic church and an Irish advocate of the courts to find the murderer of the Celtic speaker Abbess Etain.

The book hits the ground rolling by introducing one of the main character’s in a situation where she comes across a colleague hung by the neck. She is portrayed in this encounter as an independent respected nun of the Cleric church. She is very confident and wise easily shown by her choices when faced with King Oswy’s son. Brother Eadulf of the Roman church is introduced slightly differently. He is led into the story while on a boat headed for Northumbria to attend the synod.

Disney

Who doesn't love vacation? Well my family takes a Disney trip every two years and it is by far one of my favorite family traditions. The trip usually lasts about a week and a half and consists of 2 trips to universal and the rest of the days we are in Disney.

We always take the drive down to disney really early in the morning so that we make it there in time for everyone to get situated into the resort and go swimming on the first night. After a few hours of swimming the next thing we do is usually universal for the next two days to get us ready for the amazing next few days of disney.

Everyone has a favorite park in disney but mine is animal kingdom. I feel like the best part of disney for me is just the fact that it makes all my worries go away. Disney is nothing but happiness and fun for me. Everyone has a great time and everyone gets along.

The worst part about the trip is having to pack all the vehicles up and drive back to Ohio. Everyones down and no one wants to leave I mean who wants to leave vacations? But what I always so its see you real soon not goodbye.

Problems with concussion

I was a very athletic person in high school. I played soccer, ran track and played football. I was very fortunate to not have any injury up until my horrible concussion I got while playing football.

It was senior night and we were playing our rivals the Burne Union Lions. I played all sides of the ball so my body was put through some major physical tests. Opening kickoff I'm on the field and our team is receiving the ball. Our front line miss almost all of their blocks and when I turn around to block for our kick return I get ear holed by the Lions star linebacker. The rest of that night is black all I know is I played the rest of the game and we lost badly. I start remembering things after the game in the locker room when I collapse outside and start throwing up everything in my stomach.

The trainer comes over and asks me a series of questions that I don't remember and immediately diagnose me with a concussion. The next thing I remember is being poked by needles in the back of a ambulance and throwing up all over the floor while they are driving. Through out the night I was in the hospital I was in and out of consciousness and in a lot of pain. After I was released the next few weeks were terrible and full of head aches and a lot of missed practices.

I think the worst part of my concussion was me not being able to finish out the rest of my football season and letting my team down even though I knew that we were not going to win any games. To this day I feel like the concussion effects my memory and I have a huge view on concussion awareness and contact sport preventing them. Concussions really are a huge problem that should never be over looked.

Biggest impact of my life

Everyone has someone they look up to. Wether it be a super hero or professional sports player many people have one. Some can even be a little more close to the heart like their mom or dad or even a grandparent. I have known people who even had a coach or teacher be their hero. Well my father has had one of the biggest impacts of my life.
e more close to the heart like their mom or dad or even a grandparent. I have known people who even had a coach or teacher be their hero. Well my father has had one of the biggest impacts of my life.

My dad grew up in a poor family with 4 sisters. He wasn't a very privileged child so he got into a lot of bad things. He had a hard child hood and didn't finish high school or go to college. He met my mom and they had me when he was 19. For the first couple year he wasn't really in my life while I was growing up but that didn't matter. Growing up I watched him provide for his family in every way he could. He constantly pushed his body and min past the limit to put food on the table and clothes on our back. This was very hard for someone without a college diploma let alone not having a high school diploma. But despite those things my dad built a very successful masonry business that I would later work for.

He is the most loving caring and understand dad that I know and he has alway been their for me. I look up to everything he has been through and how successful he has become despite everything he has been through and the mistakes he has made. Me and my dad have a lot in common and it really help with our relationship. We both love video games and our personalities go hand in hand. I have my dad to thank for a lot of things and he is a big part of why I work so hard to be successful and strive to be the best that I can be for not only myself but for my father and my entire family.

Sports in my life

Sports in my life are a huge thing. I grew up playing soccer and watching football. Growing up in Ohio a lot of people didn't like me for the fact that I am an Oregon fan especially when Ohio played them in the NCAA championship game. I played soccer all through elementary and well into high school. I was also very fortunate enough to be able to play in college which was an amazing experience for me.

In highschool I ran track, played football and soccer. In track I was a star distance runner whit a mile time of 4 minutes and 45 seconds. Of course I'm super out of shape and could not come close to that at all right now. When I played football I was a wide receiver and also played safety and corner. Our high school team was terrible so I don't really brave much about them but it was still an amazing experience to be able to play.

Today I really enjoying watching Oregon football and NFL games. I have been a die hard Oregon fan for many years. The NFL I don't really have a favorite team I more so just follow players. One I really like watching right now is Marcus Mariota who plays for the Tennessee Titans. He was Oregon's star quarter back who was the Heisman trophy winner. I can be called your typical american when it comes to sports I party and watch a lot of football and I let it be a big impact on my life.

One of my favorite things to watch it the super bowl, the NCAA championship and march madness. I never played basketball and I have never enjoyed playing it but I love the heart and passion everyone has for the game during march madness and of course I have to root for Oregon every year they make it.

Technology I look forward to

With technology constantly advancing their are many things in development or that I hope start to be developed that I cannot way for or am extremely excited for. We as a society have come so far technologically but many people don't understand and realize how advanced we really are.

Virtual reality is something that has been around awhile but recently it has been implemented into gaming. Many games have been released that support virtual reality but I'm waiting for major released games to support virtual reality. I hope in the near future consoles and PC will go this route and have the option for gamers to opt into or out of virtual reality while playing. The immersion would be incredible and it would just give an all around amazing experience for gamers.

Another huge development recently is controllable drones for filming. With this I hope they development an ai drone that follows you around and videos you while you do almost anything. I want a drone that can fly above me and keep up with my while I play soccer and am sprinting down the field to score a goal. Instead of someone constantly having to control the drone an AI drone would be such an amazing innovation.

One huge thing that has kinda been developed but not to is full potential is holograms. I see in the future a phone that i can ask what the weather is or ask it to look something up and instead of me picking it up to look at the answers it projects it into the air. We already have Siri and it can understand what you say and bring up what you want on the screen of the iPhone and I feel like we can further that with hologram technology.

Now for something more close to heart the constant advancement of gaming technology is amazing I absolutely love PC and the betterment of PC parts are a huge thing I constantly cannot wait for. This summer I plan on building another PC with very advanced parts and I personally cannot wait.

Technology in my life

What is technology to you? How does it effect your every day life? In my every day activities technology rules almost all of it. My life I have based a lot around technology wether it be my cellphone watching tv or even playing video games technology has had a huge impact on my life. During my sophomore and junior year my life was controlled by video games. I spent upwards of 10-12 hours of video games a day on average. I met some very amazing and life changing people online while playing that I speak to on a daily basis. I am an avid PC player I still play consoles like xbox one but I lean more towards my PC. I take pride in my PC because I built it myself.

Looking past video games things like television and my laptop have played a huge impact in my life. I am an avid Game of Thrones and walking dead fan. Along with those I enjoy the 100, Black Sails and even Gotham. I love these shows and they play a big part in my life by giving me things to do when I'm bored. My laptop being my go to for anything academic also plays a huge roll in watching my shows along with helping me through college.

Now the biggest thing I say that I use is my cell phone. I know that many people like me spend countless hours on their phone a day and everyone has different reasons for it. I use my phone for communicating with my girlfriend and my family. I also play a mobil game called clash of clans which I am a huge fan of and spend a lot of time playing. My phone has saved me countless time wether it be my GPS or playing music when I having nothing else to do or even making it so I can contact someone in an emergency.

In closing you can see that technology has a huge role in my life and I have no problem with that. Todays day in age technology is everywhere and there isn't much you can do but accept it.
